Welcome to our newest Australian Collaborating Entity
JBI welcomes the Charles Darwin Centre for Evidence-Based Practice: A JBI Affiliated Group
The Northern Territory at the ‘top end’ of Australia is famed for its outback desert landscape, incredible beaches and areas of rainforest. The large and diverse Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory have an enduring spiritual relationship with the land, which influences their rich traditions and beliefs. Warm and tropical Darwin, the capital of Northern Territory, is a multicultural and dynamic city with a youthful population.
JBI would like to welcome our newest Australian Entity to the JBI Collaboration, Charles Darwin Centre for Evidence-Based Practice: A JBI Affiliated Group. This new JBIC Entity is situated on the lands of the Larrakia (saltwater) people, the traditional owners of the Darwin region (‘Garramilla’).
The Centre’s directors, Dr Xian-Liang (Daniel) Liu and Professor Benjamin Tan, are leading the way in evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions.
We asked Dr Liu what drew him to JBI and the JBI Collaboration:
JBI provides a systematic process for finding and appraising evidence and informing best practices. Our newly established Entity will use JBI methodology and models to train our students and other healthcare professionals to increase the impact of JBI through our professional and research connections across Australia and internationally.
Dr Liu explains the focus of the new JBIC Entity’s work:
…our focus will be on transferring the evidence derived from nurse/midwife-led non-pharmacological interventions into practice to improve the quality of healthcare for people affected by cancer, chronic illnesses, severe mental illness, and social adversities, as well as birthing and maternal-related issues. We are a team of academics, researchers, healthcare professionals, and graduate students focused on promoting the use of the best available evidence in healthcare practice.
We are excited to learn that the practical way the Centre will promote the use of the best available evidence is through collaboration with hospitals and primary care centres, and by engaging in a range of evidence-based projects, which will include systematic reviews, clinical trials, qualitative research and evaluations.
Once again, we welcome our newest JBI Collaboration Entity and wish Dr Liu, Professor Tan and the rest of the team all the best with their endeavours.
