Peer Review Week 2024
Celebrating the expertise and dedication of our peer reviewers
This week marks the start of Peer Review Week, celebrated from 23 - 27 September 2024. Peer Review Week recognises the essential role that peer review plays in maintaining research quality.
The theme this year explores the ‘Intersection of Innovation and Technology’.
At JBI we rely on the time, expertise and dedication of peer reviewers to help us provide the highest quality evidence-based resources for healthcare globally. This includes the JBI EBP Database and both of JBI’s journals, JBI Evidence Synthesis and JBI Evidence Implementation.
The current issue of JBI Evidence Synthesis celebrates Peer Review Week 2024 by recognising outstanding peer reviewer, Prof Yuri Jadotte, deputy director of The Northeast Institute for Evidence Synthesis and Translation: A JBI Centre of Excellence at the Rutgers School of Nursing.

Mara Lambert, Managing Editor, JBI Evidence Synthesis, highlights the importance of acknowledging exceptional peer reviewers like Prof Jadotte, who so generously volunteer their time and expertise to help authors improve their work.
“Peer review is a critical component of published research. For our journal specifically, peer reviewers help authors strengthen their work to produce trustworthy evidence syntheses. This year’s Peer Review Week theme of ‘Innovation and Technology in Peer Review’ is especially topical at this time when research integrity and transparency are paramount. We should be optimistic, and also cautious, about the advancement’s technology can offer in the peer review process going forward,” says Mara Lambert.
Prof Yuri Jadotte sheds light on the challenges he faces as a journal editor-in-chief, particularly in finding reviewers who possess both strong peer review skills and the time required to dedicate to the peer review process.
“Proper calibration of AI and adequate training of peer reviewers will help overcome these barriers, enhancing the practice of academic publishing and the capacity of peer reviewers to participate meaningfully in this enterprise,” adds Prof Jadotte.

At JBI we extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our peer reviewers for generously sharing their time and expertise and committing to maintaining the highest standards of quality.
