New JBI Collaborating Entity in India
The Pushpagiri Centre for Evidence Based Practice (PCEBP): A Joanna Briggs Institute Affiliated Group is one of the most recent entities to join the Joanna Briggs Collaboration.
Based in Kerala, PCEBP’s host institute, the Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, is highly regarded by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and is one of the first private medical colleges in India.
The Pushpagiri Centre for Evidence Based Practice is an initiative of the Department of Community Medicine and aims to build the capacity of researchers through courses and workshops, develop skills in evidence synthesis, knowledge translation and implementation, as well as advocate evidence synthesis methods among practitioners and policy-makers.
Dr Elsheba Mathew, Director of Pushpagiri Centre for Evidence Based Practice says, “the PCEBP and the Centre’s affiliation with JBI will empower them to collaborate on building the capacity of researchers, clinical and public health practitioners, nurses, and students, as well as advocate for evidence-informed practice and policy in India and other neighbouring countries.”
The Pushpagiri Centre for Evidence Based Practice will utilise their multidisciplinary team initially to conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses on topics relevant to India and other low and middle-income countries. Its aim for the future is to use the expertise of the team to enter into guideline formation and implementation research.
“We plan to grow and further the PCEBP’s activities which will benefit faculty and students from several institutions, as well as policy makers at Central and State levels”, said Dr Mathew.
JBI looks forward to the Pushpagiri Centre for Evidence Based Practice: A Joanna Briggs Affiliated Group working as part of the Joanna Briggs Collaboration to ensure that evidence-based activities globally are context-specific and driven by individuals and groups that understand their specific health environments.
