JBI iGNITES collaboration, innovation
November stood out as a highlight in JBI’s 2023 calendar
The week beginning 13 November began with the 70th JBI Collaboration Meeting followed by JBI iGNITE which concluded on 17 November with an invitation to attend the Global Evidence Summit 2024, hosted by partnering organisations Cochrane, JBI, GIN and Campbell Collaboration.
70th JBI Collaboration Meeting
The launch of JBI’s Strategic Plan 2024 – 2026 marked the opening of the JBI Collaboration (JBIC) Meeting which spanned three days in Adelaide and drew a gathering of over 100 JBIC members from all regions of the globe.

The JBIC Meeting served as a platform for interactive workshops, during which attendees deliberated on JBI’s strategic initiatives. Open and constructive discussion included how JBI could elevate its work towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and to enhance equity, diversity and inclusion.

During the Meeting the winning bid to host the JBI Colloquium 2025 was announced. Two JBI Collaboration Entities, Amrita Centre for Evidence Based Oral Health and Evidence Synthesis and Implementation for Indigenous Health, will partner to co-host the event in Kochi, India.
Announcements were also made to celebrate significant anniversaries: the Peking University Health Science Centre for Evidence-based Nursing celebrated their 10th anniversary as a JBI Collaboration Entity, and The Nottingham Centre for Evidence-Based Healthcare celebrated 20 years with the JBI Collaboration.
The JBI Collaboration Meeting is an important opportunity for the JBI Collaboration to come together to (re)connect. Networking opportunities offered by JBI included a Wildlife and Wine Day; a networking breakfast; and an evening at Prohibition Gin for a masterclass. The culmination of the social events was a stroll through the Adelaide Zoo for photo opportunities with koalas and pre-dinner drinks with giraffes at sunset. An Australia-themed dinner under the night sky at the rotunda rounded off the event, together with the irreverent JBIC Director’s cup competition for some light-hearted fun.

JBI iGNITE
Immediately following the JBI Collaboration Meeting was the two-day EBHC Methodology Symposium, JBI iGNITE, which attracted almost 200 people. Delegates were welcomed to Country and Tarntanyangga (Adelaide) by Kaurna representative, Jack Kanya Kudnuitya Buckskin.
Held at the National Wine Centre of Australia, the symposium featured presentations by international leaders and innovators in evidence synthesis and implementation, Prof Ruth Stewart; Prof Tari Turner; Dr Noah Ivers; Prof Maureen Dobbins; Prof Peter Bragge; and Prof David Moher.
Each presentation concluded with a fire-side chat, with discussions centring on optimising research methodologies, refining evidence synthesis processes, and enhancing the translation of research into practice.
A series of rapid-fire methodology sessions spotlighted innovations and future projects. Sessions included methods and approaches for attending to equity, diversity and inclusion within the qualitative systematic review process; the latest on data transformation in mixed methods systematic reviews; and innovations in textual evidence systematic review methodology.
The JBI iGNITE program included a poster walk, which was the focus of animated discussion. The winning poster by populate vote was announced as Ching-Chang Liang's on person-centred falls prevention and management in neurological post-operative patients.
JBI iGNITE delegates networked at a welcome reception and enjoyed South Australian wines and produce. University of Adelaide representative, Prof Tracy Merlin, Head of School of Public Health at the University of Adelaide welcomed delegates to the University and National Wine Centre.
The two-day symposium included a presentation by local organising host of the Global Evidence Summit 2024 in Prague, Miloslav Klugar, before JBI iGNITE was formally closed by Professor Zoe Jordan, Executive Director of JBI.
