JBI EBP Database changes to JBI Best Practice
Better name. Same trusted evidence.
The JBI Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Database is now called JBI Best Practice — trusted worldwide for making evidence easy to find, understand, and apply.
Why the change?
The updated name reflects its true purpose — providing high-quality, evidence-based decision support for clinicians, allied health professionals, health administrators, quality managers, clinical and academic librarians, and educators to make informed, confident decisions.
With a focus on nursing and allied health, JBI Best Practice includes structured summaries and procedures for quick reference, selected and appraised from the best available evidence, and underpinned by robust methodological processes.
“The term ‘database’ has led to some confusion, with comparisons to indexing services like CINAHL,” said Dr Kylie Porritt, Editor-in-Chief of JBI Best Practice. “JBI Best Practice better communicates its practical, point-of-care focus on delivering clinical decision support, not just a repository of research.”
Dr Porritt explained that the aim is to help clinicians more easily identify, access, and apply the best available evidence in real time. “The new naming structure highlights the practical value of these resources in everyday clinical practice.”
How does this affect the EBP resources?
In addition to the name change, the resources within JBI Best Practice will also be updated for improved clarity and consistency.
JBI Best Practice Evidence Summary - formerly Evidence Summary
JBI Best Practice Procedure - formerly Recommended Practice
JBI Systematic Review Summary - formerly Best Practice Information Sheet
JBI Scoping Review Summary - a brand-new resource coming in 2026!
JBI Best Practice Evidence Summary
The renaming of JBI Evidence Summaries to JBI Best Practice Evidence Summaries better communicates the practical purpose of these summaries—to provide concise, evidence-based answers to clinical questions, supporting best practice at the point of care.

JBI Best Practice Procedure
The change from Recommended Practice to JBI Best Practice Procedure clearly identifies the resource as procedural in nature, providing step-by-step, evidence-informed instructions for performing specific clinical or care activities.
Similarly, renaming the Best Practice Information Sheet to JBI Systematic Review Summary more accurately reflects the product’s purpose—to summarise the findings and implications of a single JBI systematic review in a format that is concise, accessible and useful to clinicians.
JBI Scoping Review Summary
In 2026, a new product—JBI Scoping Review Summary—will be introduced. This new resource will provide a concise and structured summary of JBI scoping reviews to support the interpretation and application of broad and exploratory evidence syntheses, particularly in emerging or complex areas where the evidence base is diverse or rapidly evolving. Stay tuned next year for this new addition!
