Closing the research-to-practice gap through glocalisation
JBI’s launches free week-long, world-wide event
Now in its third year, the JBI gLocal Solution Room is a free, week-long global event which aims to provide pragmatic solutions to challenges in getting evidence into practice in local settings.
From 5 to 11 June 2023, dynamic and interactive locally-held events, known as Solution Rooms, will take place in various countries and languages to help clinicians get research into practice.
"We know there is a 17-year gap between research and practice. The JBI gLocal Solution Room aims to help close that gap by providing a forum in which local clinicians can gather to explore the barriers and facilitators for implementing evidence and find solutions to the unique challenges they face in their local settings", says A/Prof Craig Lockwood, Director, JBI Implementation Science.
The core concept of the event, which is reflected in its name, is 'glocalisation'. Bianca Pilla, Director, JBI Global Relations explains, “popularised by sociologist Roland Robertson, glocalisation stresses the idea of a global outlook adapted to local conditions.”
This core concept is very much aligned with JBI’s vision and approach to evidence-based healthcare. While promoting and supporting the use of better evidence for better outcomes and a brighter future for all, JBI recognises that healthcare is complex, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to move research evidence into policy and practice. Evidence will not always be feasible, appropriate, meaningful, or even effective in a given context. The JBI gLocal Solution Room aims to help clinicians problem-solve when trying to implement global evidence in diverse local clinical settings.
The JBI gLocal Solution Room in 2022 attracted almost 30,000 clinicians, policy makers, researchers and students who attended local events in-person or online. This year promises to be even bigger, with more local events across more countries.
Attendance to all events worldwide is free of charge, and all events will produce a post-event proceedings report to disseminate information on the challenges and solutions highlighted during each event which will be available at Knowledge Exchange
The JBI gLocal Solution Room is open to anyone interested in evidence-based healthcare, particularly in implementing the best available evidence in daily practice. Local Solution Rooms are listed at Attend More events are being added daily.
