Announcement by JBI, Cochrane and Campbell Collaboration
We have a once in a generation chance for a global step change in evidence synthesis

As a community, we have a lot to celebrate. Significant steps have been taken in the last 12 months across a range of networks, events and initiatives:
The What Works Climate Solutions event, Global Evidence Summit and United Nations Summit of the Future Action Day all brought together people from across the synthesis community to drive forward important dialogue in relation to evidence synthesis.
The publication of the Alive commitment the SHOW ME the evidence features and the ‘Blueprint for Better International Collaboration on Evidence’ report are all indicative of the critical need for change.
The recent announcements of funding by the UK Economic and Social Research Council and Wellcome are key opportunities for our community to come together in a united way to transform the delivery of trustworthy evidence.
Momentum has been built over many years and there is much for us to feel proud of, but there is more work to do and no single organisation can achieve the change required in isolation.
Our collective challenge
While evidence syntheses are widely recognised as highly valuable for addressing global priorities, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, they are now under scrutiny for lack of prioritisation to meet global knowledge needs, with overproduction, duplication of effort and research waste at an alarming rate. We need to work together.
What the global evidence ecosystem requires is a commitment from all of us to uplift, empower, and unite. In doing so, we not only shape a better future but also honour the best of what it means to be human. Together, it is our hope that we might create an ecosystem where everyone thrives and we invite all of you to join us.
Our collective opportunity
We invited anyone interested in an open, equitable and inclusive process to an initial meeting to discuss how the global synthesis community can unite to develop shared plans. In this first meeting we began to outline:
(1) The purpose: We believe it is important to start with a shared goal: our WHY
(2) The process: We want to start to co-create a way to develop our WHAT and HOW
Next steps
Please use the form here to register your interest in participating and contributing to discussions and/or to help us organise a truly global, open and equitable process.
