Remembering Pam Fletcher
With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Pam Fletcher, a much-loved member of the JBI family.
Pam was a cherished member of the JBI team until 2019 when she retired. Throughout her time at JBI, Pam's infectious spirit and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on her colleagues and the JBI Collaboration. Pam’s willingness to support and uplift others made her a well-loved colleague, and also a cherished friend.
Pam commenced her work at JBI within the Synthesis Science Division alongside Assoc Prof Edoardo Aromataris. Pam filled a new role at JBI to provide support on a CREATE project to develop resources to support Indigenous primary healthcare staff providing services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Pam quickly developed close working relationships and friendships with individuals of JBI’s CREATE partnering organisations, NACCHO and SAHMRI. She brought her warmth, humour and no-nonsense attitude to keep the administrative side of the project running efficiently.
When work with the CREATE project was completed, Pam transitioned to working part-time with the JBI Synthesis Science team to provide administrative support for the journal, JBI Evidence Synthesis. During this time, Pam also worked part-time with Bianca Pilla in the Global Relations Division to support the JBI Collaboration.
Pam’s work with the JBI Collaboration (JBIC) allowed her to form strong bonds and friendships with members of the JBIC. Some of her favourite times at JBI were during JBIC Committee of Directors meetings in Adelaide, when she could be with her international friends.
Pam will be dearly missed but fondly remembered as an exceptional colleague, and friend. In an email to colleagues at JBI, Executive Director, Prof Zoe Jordan wrote:
"[Pam] was our mother hen, looking after everyone, always super organised and with everything to hand you could possibly need – from a sewing kit to a hammer! She was a no nonsense straight talker, but had the biggest heart and an even brighter smile… and the most incredibly wicked, mischievous giggle!
Pam was diagnosed with cancer five years ago, but in true Pam style she fought hard and with style. She was brave to the end and did things her way. Pam became part of my family outside of JBI also, good friends with my in-laws, a third nanna to Evie and just the most wonderful friend.”
Pam will be deeply missed, and will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Vale Pam.
