Occupational stress is characterised as the emotional response that arises when there is a discrepancy between work-related expectations or pressures and an employee's capacity, knowledge, and coping skills. The effects of stress or burnout in emergency department (ED) staff can adversely affect well-being, camaraderie, morale and patient safety.

A free access JBI Best Practice Information Sheet summarises the effectiveness of interventions to reduce emergency department staff occupational stress and/or burnout, using both organisation-directed strategies, like modification of workplace policies and procedures, and individual-focused interventions, such as cognitive behaviour therapy, mindfulness and education.
Mental health care planning gives health care providers, patients suffering with mental illness, and their carers the opportunity to collectively understand the aims, processes, and strategies required for managing the mental illness. Download free access JBI Evidence Summary and JBI Recommended Practice which offers best practice recommendations regarding mental health care planning.
The JBI EBP Database offers 640+ evidence-based resources related to mental health, including 600 Evidence Summaries, 35 Recommended Practices and 6 Best Practice Implementation Sheets aligned with the field. Download all free access resources from the mental health field via the features page on the JBI EBP Database website.
