JBI seeks Scientific Writers
Join the JBI EBP Database Editorial Team
JBI Scientific Writers work remotely in a financially reimbursed role to contribute to evidence-based practice (EBP) resources for the JBI EBP Database.
The JBI EBP Database provides high quality, relevant and up-to-date evidence-based resources at the point-of-care for immediate use by health professionals.
JBI Scientific Writers are integral to ensuring resources are continuously updated and created to our rigorous and transparent standards.
What do Scientific Writers do?
JBI Scientific Writers search selected databases for recent, relevant, high-quality evidence related to a topic, critically appraise the evidence, and update a JBI Evidence Summary in line with the evidence. This process is detailed in methodological guidance that JBI Scientific Writers must follow.
JBI Scientific Writers outline the process in a technical development report. The updated JBI Evidence Summary then undergoes peer review before being published in the JBI EBP Database.
What is a JBI Evidence Summary?
There are three core resources for each specialty field in the JBI EBP Database. These are JBI Evidence Summaries, Recommended Practices, and Best Practice Information Sheets. These resources are reviewed and updated on a regular basis to incorporate the best and most recent evidence.
A JBI Evidence Summary is a comprehensive, concise overview of the best clinical care practices that are updated regularly. Each Summary includes a clinically focused question; a brief summary of key points of evidence; an overview of the quality and level of evidence; and a series of key recommendations.
Scientific Writers undertake a structured and consistent approach to searching, selecting, appraising, and summarising the evidence to update JBI Evidence Summaries.
Vincent Pearson RN is the Field Editor for the Cardiovascular Care Specialty Field. Vincent gives a brief outline of how JBI develops Evidence Summaries:
Scientific Writers are assisted with their work to update JBI Evidence Summaries by a Field Editor as they become familiar with JBI methodology.
Who are the JBI Field Editors?
Field Editors are JBI Research Fellows like Dr Ashely Whitehorn, who is the Field Editor for the Women’s and Children’s Health Field, and Dr Matthew Stephenson, who is the Cancer Care Field Editor.
Can Scientific Writers choose which Specialty Fields they work with?
Yes! With more than 30 Specialty Fields, including neonatal/paediatric, dental and oral care, infection control, mental health, Scientific Writers are given topics according to their preferred Specialty Fields, where possible At times, Scientific Writers will need to work on a broader range of topics.
Some of the Field Editors, like Susan Bellman who is the Field Editor for Aged Care, introduce their Field and EBP resources available on the JBI EBP Database.
