JBI Evidence Synthesis - Issue 10
The latest issue is out now
The latest issue of JBI Evidence Synthesis is out now, coinciding with the 2024 World Evidence-Based Healthcare Day campaign. This year's theme, 'Health and Beyond: From Evidence to Action', addresses the polycrisis we face - from viral outbreaks to natural disasters, political conflict and inflation. The campaign highlights the importance of recognising challenges, innovations, lessons learned, and even promising failures to develop stronger evidence-based support systems.
In line with this theme, the editorial in the latest issue of JBI Evidence Synthesis reflects on lessons learned from the COVID-19 testing environments early in the pandemic. These insights highlight the importance of evidence-based diagnostic recommendations, which can be applied to current healthcare challenges to build more resilient evidence support systems.
A systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the accuracy of rapid antigen tests (RATs) for detecting SARS-CoV-2, and compare their performance against the gold standard viral genetic real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, offering recommendations for use in primary care settings.
This month it is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Perinatal loss presents a significant risk of emotional trauma and mental health challenges. However, conflicting global bereavement care guidelines and inconsistent implementation, among other reasons, have made synthesis complex. A new scoping review aims to explore perinatal bereavement care guidelines used in health care facilities before discharge.
The third evidence synthesis in the latest issue is a scoping review which aims to explore the roles and scope of practice of midwives and registered nurses who care for women facing unexpected pregnancy complications in acute clinical settings, like emergency departments, before 20 weeks’ gestation - settings that do not usually include midwives on staff.
The October issue of JBI Evidence Synthesis also includes various protocols, such as systematic review protocol, eHealth early intervention programs to support premature parents transitioning from NICU to home on parental and infant outcomes
Some other protocols in the latest issue include:
Experiences of accessing mental health services for women living on a low income in Canada
Treatment outcomes in maxillofacial rehabilitation
