JBI Evidence Synthesis celebrates 10 years online
Publishing evidence syntheses to promote better healthcare and health research
With the release of the first issue of JBI Evidence Synthesis for 2023, we celebrate 10 years of publishing evidence syntheses to promote better healthcare and health research.
Launched in late December 2012 under its former name, JBI Database of Systematic Reviews and Implementation Reports, JBI Evidence Synthesis is a multidisciplinary journal that publishes rigorous evidence syntheses relevant to a range of healthcare content and health conditions.
“Over the past 10 years, JBI Evidence Synthesis has been the premier channel for diverse systematic reviews that move beyond effectiveness”, says Editor-in-Chief Assoc Prof Edoardo Aromataris.
All reviews published in JBI Evidence Synthesis apply JBI’s world-leading methodology and methods, which are underpinned by the JBI Model of Evidence-based Healthcare. “The journal’s original mission was to publish reviews and protocols by authors who apply JBI methodology and methods, and this mission is unchanged.”

Top systematic reviews – Editor’s pick
Together with Managing Editor, Mara Lambert, Assoc Prof Aromataris reflects on the evolution of JBI Evidence Synthesis and major milestones over the past decade in an editorial, Celebrating 10 years of JBI Evidence Synthesis online.
In the editorial, the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor also take the opportunity to acknowledge the significant contributions by peer reviewers and editorial advisory board members:
“JBI Evidence Synthesis only exists and continues to operate thanks to the often-unheralded efforts of thousands of peer reviewers worldwide who volunteer their own valuable time to critique and evaluate submissions… As with our peer reviewers, our journal would not be a success without the commitment and support of our panel of handling editors and editorial advisory board members… the journal’s editorial advisory board provides outstanding advice on new initiatives, processes, and insights into the current science and innovations in both synthesis and publishing.”
