Evidence-based Practice in Brandenburg
New JBIC Entity focuses on an aging population in Germany
The JBI Collaboration has had a busy start to 2023, welcoming our new JBIC Entities. One of our most recent JBI Collaborating Entities is Evidence Based Practice in Brandenburg: A JBI Affiliated Group, based in the county of Brandenburg, Germany. Brandenburg is best known for its natural beauty and landscapes, and with one-third of its area being a nature reserve and host to 3000 lakes, it is a favourite destination for nature lovers.
Brandenburg is also home to the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB), and the Convenor of our newly minted German JBIC Entity, Dr Robert Prill, tells us that:
MHB has focused its research efforts on health and illness of the ageing population with an emphasis on advances in medicine and health services research. Health service research and teaching concepts at the MHB primarily addresses the local requirements in Brandenburg, which are caused by a shrinking population and an increased percentage of the elderly experiencing age-related illness and care dependency.
Dr Prill plans to sharpen MHB's profile 'with translational projects (like the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership Project: Evidence Implementation in Clinical Practice) to integrate basic research, clinical research and health services research in medicine and rehabilitation.’ The scope of Evidence Based Practice in Brandenburg is to close the gap between research and practice and to use JBI methodology – particularly evidence-based implementation science – to successfully do this. According to Dr Prill, rapid reviews and the synthesising of literature, such as in scoping reviews, are rarely used in Germany, and he sees great potential for further development by their JBIC Entity. ‘I see that through our work we will support other disciplines and other fields also working in the evidence-based healthcare space.’
Thank you, Dr Prill and team for your drive and enthusiasm. We are very excited to see the positive changes you will make, not only to research, but the clinical setting, where patients will be assured the best possible evidence-based care.
