Advancing evidence-based nursing in PR China
Professor Wang Zhiwen, Director of the Peking University Health Science Centre for Evidence-based Nursing: A JBI Affiliated Group reflects on 10 years with the JBI Collaboration.
How did your interest in evidence-based practice start?
Myself and Dr Pang Dong were core staff at the opening of the Peking University Health Science Centre for Evidence-based Nursing. Our passion for evidence-based practice motivated us to apply to join the JBI Collaboration. This passion grew after I attended the Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Program (CSRTP) and began peer reviewing systematic reviews.
After 10 years, what still motivates you?
More and more nursing staff and nursing students are eager to learn the JBI Approach and use JBI methodology for systematic reviews and transfer evidence to practice to improve the quality of care. Being a part of this keeps me enthusiastic and motivated.
What has your JBI Affiliated Group achieved that you are most proud of?
We are proud to have run 15 Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Program, training 353 participants from 28 provinces in mainland China. The purpose of this Centre is to extend evidence-based nursing practice to a wider population and contribute to the production of systematic reviews by faculty members, students, as well as nursing specialists in affiliated hospitals and communities. Running the CSRTP is one of the ways we achieve our mission as a JBI Affiliated Group. Moreover, we have held several international forums to spread further JBI’s vision and methodology for evidence synthesis and evidence implementation.
What would be the one piece of advice you would give to someone thinking of joining the JBI Collaboration?
Join the JBI family as soon as possible!
Can you share with us your fondest memories over your 10 years with the JBI Collaboration?
I have many fond memories of my times with the members of the JBI Collaboration when we are able to meet face to face. I cherish the group photos of us as one big JBI family at each JBI Collaboration Meeting.
Can you share something about the JBI Affiliated Group that other JBI Collaborating Entities may not know?
As well as making the effort to spread the vision and methodology of JBI among nursing staff and nursing students in mainland China, we are trying to conduct more work on guideline development and evidence implementation.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
We are honoured to be a member of the JBI family. We hope to contribute more to JBI and global health.
