2023 JBI Evidence Synthesis Impact Award announced
Research that makes an impact
This year marks the inaugural JBI Evidence Synthesis Impact Award, recognising the most impactful systematic review published in JBI Evidence Synthesis journal in 2023.

The winner was selected from a competitive shortlist based on potential for impact, quality of research conduct, relevance to current or emerging health care issues, and significance in advancing evidence-based health care.
All systematic reviews published in JBI Evidence Synthesis in the previous year were automatically eligible for the award. Reviews were assessed through aggregation of data tracked monthly for six months post-publication.
The reviews with the top metrics were shortlisted and assessed against four main criteria.
- Potential for impact: Does the review have potential to impact health care policy/practice, health care workers, or patients in a meaningful way?
- Quality: Is the review conducted to a high standard, with rigor and a clear understanding and conveyance of JBI methodology?
- Relevance: Is the systematic review relevant to a current or emerging health care issue, addressing an important research gap, or informing decision-making in the field?
- Significance: Does the submission demonstrate the overall significance and contribution of the evidence synthesis to advancing evidence-based health care and promoting better patient outcomes?
“The JBI Evidence Synthesis Impact Award was designed to support and reinforce the vision and mission of JBI, and to pose important questions to the available evidence to inform the way forward in health practice. 2023 saw our first worthy winner in this regard.” Assoc/Prof Edoardo Aromataris, Editor in Chief, JBI Evidence Synthesis.

The inaugural winner of the JBI Evidence Synthesis Impact Award for 2023 is Effect of dexamethasone administration for postoperative nausea and vomiting prophylaxis on glucose levels in adults with diabetes undergoing elective surgery: a systematic review with meta-analysis
