How are patient journey mapping projects in health services described and documented in current literature?
The concept being explored in this scoping review is the process of mapping patient journeys through health systems and services as a method of collecting, analysing and presenting data for research and/or quality improvement projects. Studies that report projects where patient journey mapping has been used to document patient experiences will be included in this review. Publications that provide guidance or describe a methodological approach for undertaking patient journey mapping projects will also be considered if they describe or outline suggestions or requirements for documenting or reporting projects that adopt this data collection and analysis strategy.
All settings where patients are provided with healthcare will be included. A broad definition of healthcare will be adopted throughout the review. Examples of the context in which articles have been conducted may include, but are not limited to, primary, secondary or tertiary healthcare services in the public or private sector. There will be no exclusion on field of research.
