The question of this review is: How do fathers experience depression during the perinatal period?
The review objectives are also to explore:
How men recognise and understand their depression
What emotions they experience
The impact of depression occurring in the perinatal period on relationships with partners, infants and others
Men's help seeking behaviours and support in the perinatal period
The population are fathers:
Biological fathers with born children, or whose partner is pregnant with their child;
Adult fathers over the age of 18;
Men who experienced depression/postnatal depression/depressive symptoms during the perinatal period.
The phenomena of interest is experiences of depression.
The context is the perinatal period, which covers the duration of pregnancy through to one year postpartum.
