What is the current global state of nurse prescribing for the treatment of opioid use disorder?
Nurses with scope of practice that includes prescriptive authority for medication used to treat opioid use disorder.
For the purposes of this review the International Council of Nurses Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nursing Network (ICN NP/APNN) definition of advanced practice nursing will be used. This definition includes all registered nurses with advanced education, an expanded scope of practice and commensurate clinical skills or competencies as determined by the country of practice.
Concept: Pharmacological treatment of opioid use disorder with substitution medications (i.e. buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, diacetylmorphine, others.)
Context: All countries and settings where nurses prescribe medication treatment for opioid use disorder.
